I’m sure the single player aspect will be great, but I have some serious doubts with the multiplayer.
I was hoping for good things from this one, as Crysis 1 on the PC was interesting and downright pretty. I guess grenades are handled by the d-pad along with a vision mode that detects heat signatures. These powers are controlled and balanced by an energy meter that depletes and recharges when powers are not being used. The B button controls your slides and crouching (also activates a ground strike when jumping), while pressing the right stick handles your sprint ability. Right Bumper controls your invisibility which stays on until you fire a weapon or punch. Left Bumper activates your shield which slows you down but allows you to take more punishment than normal. Suit powers are easy to use and pretty cool. Pressing the melee button for example isn’t instant and can take up to a second after pressing the button. It does throw your timing off until you get used to it, and may get you killed as well. The controls are standard shooter fare as well, but I noticed that there is a bit of input lag when pressing buttons. I was killed one time by a guy 3 feet behind me and off to the left a bit. Melee strikes are one hit kills and I’ve also noticed that the area effect on them is absurdly large. Seems like non-headshots take more bullets than necessary to bring someone down. Guns are your standard fare but they do feel a bit underpowered. Skyline features a rooftop battle with a broken office building, a greenhouse, and a few other nooks to hide in. The map is on the smaller side, but there is a ton going on in it so it feels bigger than it is. The game looks really good for its current beta state and features some impressive detail work. When you finally do enter a match, you’ll find your basic standard first person shooter. Happened to me twice and it’s frustrating each time. Finally, if you do manage to make it past those last two screens and the game begins to load, the game may freeze on you, requiring you to turn your Xbox off completely.
When you do manage to find a game to join, you’re still not guaranteed a spot because you may get a server error that boots you back to the title screen. The biggest issue I have with this game is the fact that it takes an eternity to find and connect to a game. You can customize your loadouts, check out your challenges, and even spend unlock points on getting new icons for your display. Also please note that this has nothing to do with the single player side, this is multiplayer only.įirst things first, the multiplayer has a very distinct Call of Duty type set up going on. Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand that this is still in beta so many of these complaints could get fixed. I’ve heard great things and honestly, the trailers and gameplay videos I’ve seen all have looked excellent. After playing through it a couple of times, only two words came into my head: underwhelming and disappointing. So with the multiplayer beta finally extending to 360 users, I was able to get my mitts on it and give it a spin. Who wouldn’t want to be a super human with abilities like cloaking and running really fast? Crysis 2 promises those things and boasts a multiplayer by the talented folks that brought us the wonderful Timesplitters series.
